What if Harrisburg’s Crazy Gay Hangout launched a Crazy Drag Pageant that also raised money for Pride? Well, get ready for the biggest train wreck of a drag pageant ever.
Join us for a fun and zany “Brownstone take” on a drag pageant where local drag talent compete for the pinnacle of drag success: The M. Brownstone Crown.
And yes, you the audience, will be a key part of the chaos…we mean “show.”
Top local drag talent will be vying for the crown, a cash prize, up to 4 paid gigs at the Brownstone in 2025, and last but not least, all the glamour and prestige that goes with representing Harrisburg’s gay dive bar.
Plus, we’ll be raising money for the Pride Festival of Central PA while having one crazy good time.
You’ll be a part of the fun as the competitors fight their way through harrowing competitions, including:
Challenge #1: “Remember My Name”
First impressions are often the most important. In this challenge, contestants will have 2 minutes each to introduce themselves to the judges and audience and make a memorable impact. Watch in awe as they create their “WOW Moment”.
Challenge #2: “Sophisticated Lady at the Gay Dive Bar”
In this challenge, competitors have to create a fun and delightful experience that gets the audience roaring with engagement. Here’s the scenario: they were expecting to put on a glamorous cabaret performance and show up, get up on stage, start their sophisticated performance, and realize it’s actually a raunchy little gay dive bar called the Brownstone. Their performance and outfit will start out sophisticated and glamorous and morph into a raucous, fun dive bar performance that fits the crazy Brownstone brand.
Challenge #3: “Cat Fight in the Litter Box”
If you’re workin’ the Brownstone, you have to be quick on your feet and respond to sass from the audience. In this challenge, our judges will assess competitors’ ability to be sassy, funny, quick-witted and adaptable/fast-on-your-feet. In this 2-part challenge, we randomly pick two contestants to go head-to-head. The first part is a 2-minutes of Sassy Shade Off (2 minutes of back-and-forth for each candidate to good-naturedly throw shade on the other as to why they are the better choice for M. Brownstone). In the 2nd part of the challenge, the two will face off in a lip sync / dance off battle of the ages to a song randomly selected by an audience member from a predetermined music selection.
Challenge #4: The Finale: “M. Brownstone is in the House”
In the final challenge, contestants will create a look, pick a song, and create a performance that they think best represents the Brownstone Lounge, it’s brand, and it’s audience. This will be their vision for M. Brownstone. And you in the audience will be part of the scoring for this challenge.
