This is How You Nail the Landing.
Any bar can pour a drink in a glass. Some of the great ones create an amazing vibe or atmosphere that keeps you coming back for more. But it takes a really special person to create a place where you feel like you belong.
For 24 years, Karen Kane has turned the tiny, little Brownstone into an improbably magical mix of friendly escape, safe refuge, confessional, and riotous crazy train that could careen off the tracks at any moment.
Were you the handsomest man she’s ever met?
Were you the most beautiful person in the world?
Did you have the cutest dog ever?
Did you have the best chili ever made (as she stuffed a $20 bill into your charity envelope)?
LOL…You are not alone.
But when you walked into the bar, you were greeted with a warm hello, a big grin, lots of laughs, (and sometimes a shot of Yukon Jack). You felt special. You are special.
Now that’s magic (or at least, sorcery).
At the Brownstone, we are so proud of our Fearless Leader & her wise-cracking sidekick, Dave. They’ve built something truly special and we’re proud to be a part of it. And best of all? We’re proud to keep it going.
Karen’s nailed the landing—blazed the path, passed down the wisdom, lit the torch and successfully passed it on to Kim. And if we forget anything, we’ll just walk down to the end of the bar and ask her - :)
Thank you Karen and Dave for your immeasurable contributions to Harrisburg’s LGBTQ+ community and for keeping the Brownstone chugging along.

We’re not going anywhere. So, buckle up and keep your hands and arms safely inside the crazy train. We’re looking to you to help Kim and the team write the next chapter of the Brownstone. Hold on tight and here’s to a bright future!
